The purpose of this exercise was to refurbish three existing structures to serve as the first implementation of the Tumo center for creative technology in the US, with a projected surface of around 3,000 m2. These structures are envisioned to not only house the center, but also to accommodate emerging tech companies seeking rental space.
We proposed a light tensile structure behind which minimal rehabilitation should be performed to the existing façade. The Tumo Center spaces will undergo further development adhering to the high standards established through our extensive collaboration with the institution on previous international projects.
Recognizing the unique needs of digital activities within the Tumo Center, which often demand secluded environments for immersive virtual reality experiences, we propose a contrasting addition.
Positioned above the existing buildings, an elastic net structure will provide students with an extraordinary destination. Here, they can reconnect with the iconic skyline of LA, particularly the neighboring Universal Studios campus, all while experiencing a state of levitation.
